Insight Communications Works With Motorola to Identify Potentially Defective Component of Cable Set-Top Boxes

New York – June 11, 2002

Insight Communications (Nasdaq: ICCI) is working with Motorola Broadband Communications Sector to identify DCT2000 set-top boxes that may potentially contain a defective power supply component, the company announced today.

Motorola filed a report with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) concerning a potential safety risk with DCT2000 interactive digital set-tops manufactured between late February and May of 2002. This report was filed in response to information received from Motorola's power supply manufacturers that some of the power supplies used in some DCT2000s could contain a defective component, giving rise to a quality concern. Motorola's subsequent investigation of the quality defect disclosed a potential shock hazard, which prompted Motorola to notify the CPSC and begin developing a plan to address this issue.

No known incidents related to the problem have been reported to date. Motorola estimates that less than 2.5% of the DCT2000 boxes manufactured in the affected timeframe are impacted.

Despite this small number, Insight regards the safety of its customers and employees to be of the utmost importance and is taking preventative measures in this matter in order to protect anyone who may be potentially affected. As such, Insight is working with Motorola to replace every DCT2000 box manufactured after March 1, 2002. Insight has identified these customers, all of whom will be contacted directly by the company in order to schedule a service call.

In the meantime, customers installed during that timeframe may continue to use their Insight Digital service normally. Home installations for these potentially impacted DCT2000s would have taken place since the beginning of March, 2002. To avoid risk of potential shock, customers are urged not to attempt to remove the power cord from the rear of the box. Power cords should always be unplugged from the wall outlet or other energy source before being disengaged from the product.

Insight Communications (NASDAQ: ICCI) is the 9th largest cable operator in the United States, serving approximately 1.4 million customers. The company is highly concentrated in the four contiguous states of Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Named "2001 Cable Operator of the Year" by Cablevision Magazine, Insight specializes in offering bundled, state-of-the-art services in mid-sized communities, delivering analog and digital video, high-speed data and the recent deployment of voice telephony in selected markets to its customers.
