Geraldine B. Laybourne Joins Insight Communications Board of Directors

New York – February 25, 2004

Insight Communications Company (NASDAQ: ICCI) named Geraldine B. Laybourne to its Board of Directors, announced Sidney R. Knafel, Chairman of the New York-based cable operator.

Laybourne’s career in television spans nearly 25 years of landmark achievements, which began with the leading role at Nickelodeon during its evolution into a household name. She has served as president, Nick at Nite; vice chairperson of MTV Networks; and vice-president for cable operation, Disney/ABC. Most recently, Laybourne founded Oxygen Media and has served as its chairman and chief executive officer since its inception in 1998. Oxygen, in 52 million homes, is the only independent network in recent years to gain widespread cable distribution.

She has been honored for her many contributions to the industry including being named as one of the 25 most influential people in America by Time magazine in 1996. She has received numerous awards including: the Annenberg Public Policy Center's award for Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Children and Television, the New York Women in Communications Matrix Award for Broadcasting, and the Creative Coalition's Spotlight Award. In 1995, she was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. She also received the cable industry’s highest honor, the Vanguard Award, in 1990. Laybourne sits on a number of boards and advisory committees, including The National Cable and Telecommunications Association, The National Council for Families and Television, New York Women in Film & Television (Advisory Board), and Vassar College.

“ We are delighted to welcome Geraldine to the Board of Directors,” said Knafel. “She is truly an icon in the industry. Her vast experience, as well as her invaluable perspective and spirit of innovation, will undoubtedly serve us well.”
“ I am honored to be joining the board of Insight Communications,” said Laybourne. “I have tremendous respect for Michael Willner and the management and look forward to a deeper understanding of the operator side of our great industry.”

Laybourne fills the Board seat vacated by Prakash Melwani in July 2003. Also on Insight’s Board are Knafel, Michael S. Willner (Vice Chairman, President, and CEO), Dinni Jain (Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer), Thomas L. Kempner, James S. Marcus, and Daniel S. O’Connell.

Insight Communications (NASDAQ: ICCI) is the ninth largest cable operator in the United States, serving approximately 1.4 million customers in the four contiguous states of Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Insight specializes in offering bundled, state-of-the-art services in mid-sized communities, delivering basic and digital video, high-speed data, and voice telephony in selected markets to its customers.
